OVERVIEW

In early 2000, the Jackson Area Manufacturers Association (JAMA) established its long-range goals. One of these goals was to take an active role in workforce development within the structure of local schools. Every month the Board of Directors held its meetings at a different school throughout the community. We listened to the superintendent, principal or a career development instructor to learn more about the apparent disconnect between graduates from our school systems and the expectations of manufacturing employers. Information was shared on programs and perceptions, while JAMA offered workplace insights and concerns.

As a result of these activities, JAMA has strengthened collaborative relationships with many partners and consulted with and hosted a workshop with renowned visionary Dr. Willard Daggett to gain insight on the national perspective. JAMA also sponsored two local teachers to Dr. Daggett’s Best Practices Conference in Texas.

Through these initial steps, partnerships between area manufacturers and school districts have been created as part of an ongoing process.

OUR MISSION

To create strategic measurable opportunities between the manufacturing and education communities and families sharing information, resources, and concerns that will help define workplace needs and expectations to help develop tomorrow’s workforce in order to create an attractive business environment.
