Jackson-area auto suppliers make contacts in medical manufacturing sector

A number of local automotive suppliers made connections in the growing medical manufacturing sector at a breakfast meeting Thursday. The Jackson Area Manufacturers Association ran the event, which was sponsored by Allegiance Health and The Enterprise Group, and held at the Country Club of Jackson.
“The companies left there with opportunities,” JAMA’s Executive Director Bill Rayl said. “That should open up some pretty interesting doors.”
The four presenters from GE Healthcare, CJPS Enterprises, Premier Inc. and VHA Inc. discussed how their operations work and what they are looking for, and then they met one-on-one with local suppliers.
Rayl said GE’s representative, Michael Lucas, told him he found five or six companies that had what he was seeking. “We’re now on his radar screen,” he said.
Dick Johnson, owner of Contour Tool & Machine, 2393 Research Drive, said the breakfast was productive and he was grateful to the groups for putting it on.
“It’s a step forward,” he said.
Johnson said he came away with one solid contact and is interested in supplying his cutting tools to other companies that will produce medical devices.
“I’m just trying to break out into another niche,” he said.
Rayl said several of the local companies are interested in supplying to Allegiance, and CEO Georgia Fojtasek addressed the group near the end of the presentation.
“There is a strong commitment from Allegiance to help with this initiative,” Rayl said.
