Dear Teachers: Currently manufacturers are facing the challenge of finding skilled labor in trades and technical careers. We have been working overtime to address this issue for our local manufacturers. Members of JAMA are partnering with local schools to help teachers and students understand what it takes to succeed in today’s world of work. The partnerships utilize interactive activities, plant tours, job shadowing, sponsorships, curriculum development, and classroom presentations on careers in manufacturing. These include careers as a CEO, controller, plant manager, engineer, supervisor, trainer, laborer and many more. Manufacturing can be very
mysterious to students because of its closed-door impression. We’d like to
eliminate that ambiguity and create an image of excitement. Today’s world of
manufacturing is very different. Technology and science are creating
exciting products and careers. As an example, today’s motor engine will be
replaced to accommodate hydrogen fuel cells by the year 2010. As an
association we’d like to see students of all ages and grades become more
familiar with manufacturing and how it affects the world we live in.
